Haig were appointed in June 2015 as Main Contractor for the redevelopment of a residential site in Chelsea close to the Kings Road, the site was occupied by an old townhouse and 4 studios.
The project consisted of the demolition of the existing buildings to allow construction of a 4,000 sq,ft. Townhouse over four floors, and 4 luxury duplex apartments. Access to the site was a major challenge as it was located in the middle of a densely populated residential area and adjacent to a school. To undertake these works with minimal disruption to the local neighbours, required extensive negotiations with RBKC and the local residents to agree a site operating strategy which allow works to be completed, with the minimum of impact to our neighbours and to the school during drop off and collections.
The Townhouse was constructed with a new rendered façade to reflect the style of original building on the site, the four storey building was built in traditional construction including a new basement under the whole building. The construction of the four apartments, which had a contemporary design, again had extensive basement works to form a lower ground floor and lightwells. The upper floors were constructed as a steel structure with lightweight concrete floors, to speed up construction times the external façade was constructed using pre-cast concrete panels, with inset stone and brick slips.
The internals for the Apartments have been completed to a high standard with bespoke bathrooms, kitchens and timber floors throughout to provide a contemporary finish. The townhouse is centred around the main feature staircase that runs from top to bottom of the building with a lightwell above. The finishes are again to a high standard with bespoke handmade kitchen, and feature bathrooms, which while contemporary reflect the period style of the external façade of the property.
